We All Live Downstream (2022)
Concrete, glass, water, pumps and solar panels
Pumps and tubing inside the sculptures allow the coyotes to weep arcs of water from their eyes, effectively crying. Structurally, the coyotes share water reservoirs, so that some cry into the water reservoirs of others. This piece employs a humorous gesture to examine downstream effects, human-led removal of nonhumans that live in close proximity and are highly adaptable to human disturbed spaces, the ways that humans prefer to interact with non-human persons, and anthropomorphism as both helper and hinderance. The work is site reactive, attracting humans who enjoy a water feature, and nonhumans who seek a drink.
